Meet the Hive

I grew up singing in a church choir and Hertfordshire County Youth Choir, which sparked my lifelong love of choral singing. At Southampton University, I sang with LOpSoc and for many years I have regularly performed with SOS Presents. I’m a full-time teacher, mummy of three, and have a very supportive husband who graciously puts up with Queen Bees taking over the house every Friday night!

I am a Yorkshire lass who took formal singing lessons from age 15, going onto study BA(hons) in Music at Hull University along with a couple of singing diplomas with Trinity College. I moved to the South in 2013 and live with my husband, two daughters and a flock of chickens! I teach singing from my studio at home and love being a part of the Queen Bee hive!

I’ve loved music for as long as I can remember — from playing piano as a child, to singing in school choirs and musical shows. These days I’m a stay-at-home mum, and with all three of my children at school, Friday rehearsals are the highlight of my week! It’s my time to catch up with friends, have a good laugh, and sing my heart out. I’m so thankful to be part of the Queen Bees.

As a former international athlete, my world once revolved around training, travel, and competition—leaving little room for anything else. Now, with time to breathe, I’ve rediscovered my passion for singing and performing. It feels like coming home, and I absolutely love it.

I also arrived here via Southampton University, Lopsoc and SOS Presents, met my husband and had my first foray into a Capella with Dangerous Rhythm. We both went into IT but spend our spare time doing shows while our 2 boys perform with multiple orchestras. At the end of a busy week I love turning up to Queen Bees with a bottle of wine for a good sing and plenty of laughs!

I have been a performer from a young age – the solo at the Brownie concert while in the early stages of chickenpox, aged nine, being an early triumph. I was introduced to choral singing and comic opera at school (thank you, Bitterne Park and Itchen College) and continued through university and beyond with SOS Presents. I’m an artist printmaker exhibiting in local galleries, and an ex-teacher, with a very patient husband, three grown-up children and four grandchildren. I just love singing in harmony and being a Bee in the Hive!
